Lime Battery

We wanted to see how a battery worked. We put zinc nail and a piece of copper into a lime and connected to a volt meter.
1 Banana=1 volt
1 Lime=0.95 volts
2 Limes=1.96 volts
3 Limes= 2.9 volts and it lit up a LED
Image result for how does it work
So does it depend on the size of the lime?
What if I put more nails and copper in?
Can I use different metals?
Can you put more wires in? Yes

Writing Class Challenge, Robotic Arm Challenge.

Robotic Arm Challenge
By Ashley

Did you successfully complete the challenge? Describe how it went
I thought that the challenge went well because…we had more than one idea if one plan did not work we would do another one.

What are the rules, equipment and tools that you used for this challenge? If someone else read this would they understand how to play?
A meter ruler was used to measure the distance that we needed put the coke bottle
You must raise the coke bottle up 15cm high before placing it down.  You have 15 pages of newspaper, 1 meter of tape, and 1 meter of string. You also had scissors but only used to cut things, and you weren't allowed to add it to your design.

What are 2 more aspects of your design that you think worked well?
  • The paper structure we made was very strong and did not break while we were lifting the bottle.
  • We could manage to lift the bottle 15 cm of the ground.
  • We lifted the bottle more that 80 cm in front of us.
What are 2 more aspects of your design that you think that did not work well or as intended?
  • The lasso of string was hard to pull tight around the bottle and we had to redo it twice.
  • Our team could not manage to lift the bottle past the 1 meter ruler.
  • The bottle was really heavy therefore it was very hard to move it without tipping over.

The name “Robotic Arm Challenge” is a good name for this challenge, can you think of 2 more names that you could give this challenge?
  • Levitating coke magic
  • Magic Coke Bottle
  • Flying bottle

Room 11 and 12 are thinking of doing the same challenge, can you think of any tips and tricks that you could give them that would help them do the challenge better?
  • I would think of a different way of holding up the bottle instead of string because the string struggled to hold the Coke bottles weight.
  • Make the design so two people can hold the string on each side of the meter ruler.
  • Make sure the strongest people in the team hold up the bottle when you are trying to get the bottle over.

You had only 5 pieces of equipment to use for this challenge, these were:
- Coke Bottle
- News Paper
- Tape
- String

If you did this challenge tomorrow what equipment or rules would you allow, switch out or take away?
- I would add in different shaped bottles some with wider lids than others so that we could pick them up in different ways.
- I would add more string.

Writing Purpose: To inform other HNI students the rules of the game and to develop our creative thinking ability.
Audience: Miss O’B, Mr Harman and HNI students
IMG_0448.JPGIMG_0450.JPG

Use your creativity to come up with 3 alternative names for this very exciting game!
Awesome Foursome
4 Quarters
WW3

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.
Aim of the game:
Rules:
1. You must sit down on you bottom if you go on your knees you must sit out
2. The aim of the game is to get all the balls in one quarter
3. You can’t  aim the ball at a person’s face
4. You get a point if all the balls go in your quarter but the team with the least amount of points win
5. Make sure you are always looking around

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Defence
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.
  • Dodge balls instead of netballs
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to sit on the bleaches to stretch with their arms and intercept flying balls.
  • One person on each team can play on their knees
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.
  • More confident people at the front and least confident at the back

Strike Performance:

I could feel the vibration underneath my feet as they were hitting very hard on the drums. It was very interesting to feel the vibration of the drums underneath me. I could feel everyone really like the performance because everyone was whispering about how much it was so cool.

I could see the sweat dripping on the performers faces and they were hitting the drums as hard as they could to get the sound out. The music they were creating was very interesting and entertaining. I could see everyone was super happy and enjoying it because they were all clapping along to the beat.

I could also see the smiles on everyone's facings as they were listening to them perform. I was very loud but that was kind of the point. I was very interesting and fun and you could see how hard and much they practice to get the performance perfect. And in my opinion it was perfect.

I could tell that all the performers really love music and very into their drums. Overall it was totally awesome and so entertaining and they had the school drooling over them.

My Favourite Free Writing Entry

Breakers

Yesterday I went to a restaurant for dinner called Breakers It was delicious. I went with my family . And that includes my mum, dad, sister, and cousin. We all were very hungry because it was seven thirty and we normally eat dinner at six. We all just wanted to eat. We finally got there and ordered our food. I got a chicken wrap and some fries and also a nice cold glass of Fanta. Then we all just sat and talked for a while until our food came. Then finally our food came it looked and smelt great. I ate it up all very fast. Next it was all gone, I ate a big bowl of fries and a big chicken wrap in about 10 minutes. I was hungry! My mum was very surprised. She said I had never ate so fast in my life. I think that was definitely true! A few minutes later we had all finished and it was time for dessert. I ate that
